2011 was the centenary for International Womens Day
The theme for 2011 was
Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women

| About International Women's Day When: Tuesday 8 March 2011 Where: Everywhere What: International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating
the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present
and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria,
International Women's Day is a national holiday. Why: Suffragettes campaigned for women's right to vote. The word 'Suffragette' is derived from the word "suffrage" meaning the right to vote. International Women's Day honours the work of the Suffragettes, celebrates women's success, and reminds of inequities still to be redressed. I love the work I do with women and have been lucky enough to share stories and be trusted to photograph some remarkable women. Some of the stories that really stand out are ones from Belarus, Ethiopia and Rwanda - uplifting, humbling and inspiring women whose stories encourage you to put your own life into perspective very quickly.
I will be sharing some of these personal stories wtih a small group of women at Chidham WI on International Women's Day - March 8th 2011.
