December 15th 2011 - Bourne CC Photo Study Day - Winning Photos
Exactly one month to the day since the Bourne Community College Photo Study Day with Gail at Chichester Cathedral, students got together to find out whose photographs had been selected for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. All the photographs submitted for selection were fantastic - with lots of individuality as well as evidence that everyone had listened and put into practice what had been discussed. Selecting the winners was very difficult and the final choice was made by Gail with Chichester Cathedral's Marilyn McInnes. Here are the results - and Gail will post a link to all the student's images on the Responsible Photography Education website at the start of next term. A huge well done to everyone involved. Thank-you for a very enjoyable day and for taking some great photographs.

New photographs from ETHIOPIA now edited - after many very long nights and early mornings!
22nd September - online posting.
Will write more about this later - in the meantime this is my very hurried posting in response to blurb books announcement today. Awaiting moderation so will see what the reply is but I have very serious concerns about this tie up, and am becoming even more concerned about the use of facebook. UPDATE - Blurb posted the comment and responded - see below. The answer is fine providing the photos in users albums are their own! Thank-you for the clarification Blurb.
'Hey Gail,
Rest assured that bookmakers only have access to photos in their own albums. That’s why we require authentication with Facebook accounts.

Kent

Factoids - Steve Wright in the afternoon Radio 2 18th August What's inside a camel's hump - especially for Steve, Tim and Janey
![]() after it had been run over by a lorry. A young man had purchased it that morning at the weekly market. A price had been agreed as compensation, which would have been twice as much if the camel had been female, and three times or more had it been pregnant. The meat was immediately cut from the hump before it festered in the midday sun - the temperature was 40c and there was already a strong stench. I don't make a habit of photographing dead animals but have quite a few in my archive. |
Morocco - 11th August - Photo Projects

Ethiopia - 12th July 2011.
The borders of Ethiopia and Somalia are experiencing increasing food shortages and drought. Once again, whilst world politicians debate what is happening in this remote region, and in particular where the 'International Aid' money is going, aid agencies are more concerned with the lives of the thousands of people in the region. The Disasters Emergency Committee have launched an appeal for help, and already the UK have donated over £6 million pounds. For more information and to donate, please follow this link to DEC.

Anton Hammerl, Photographer killed in Libya -www.freeanton.org
Anton Hammerl lived in the UK with his young family. He was on assignment in Libya, where he was shot and killed on April 5th. His death was not confirmed until Thursday 19th May when the three journalists he was traveling with, were released from captivity. His body has not ben found. His family said in a statement, that-
"On 5 April, Anton was shot by Gaddafi's forces in an extremely remote location in the Libyan desert,""According to eyewitnesses, his injuries were such that he could not have survived without medical attention.
"Words are simply not enough to describe the unbelievable trauma the Hammerl family is going through."
Donations to the fund set up by friends and colleagues of Hammerl at www.freeanton.org will be used by the Hammerl family to set up a tertiary education fund in the names of Hammerl's three children - Aurora, 11, Neo, 7, and Hiro, 15 weeks. .
European Commission Culture Budget
In July 2011, the European Commission starts to discuss how much it will spend on culture in the next EU budget. The result will impact everyone in Europe as our Governments and Policy Makers will be influenced by this decision. Cultural activities are an integral part of our lives, and we cannot let the EU reduce the spend as this will directly affect the UK - have your say by signing the manifesto.

Very Sad News from Morocco
Gail and her partners at Responsible Photography Holidays are all shocked and extremely sad to learn of the sudden and unexpected death of Hichem, school teacher in the mountain village and one of the founders of the mountain village photo project. Our thoughts are especially with Nadia, his wife and their children, as well as with the whole community, and particularly the school children he taught. Hichem loved live and he lived for his family, his work and the mountains. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who took an interest in everyones life, and who encouraged his pupils to work hard - as well as to have fun. Hichem - you are going to be very greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know you.
